For those living in the mid west, red states or under a rock (I guess thats the same thing), Herring are small, oily fish of the genus Clupea found in the shallow, temperate waters of the North Atlantic, the Baltic Sea, the North Pacific, and the Mediterranean.

At home we dined on a variety of Russian and local specialties; pate, stuffed with egg, dungeness crab, raw oysters and lots of champagne
